England x Reader - London's Calling Bonus

It had been a little over three months since you had moved to London with (friend's f/n). She and Alice insisted that you and Arthur were a couple by now, but the two of you still hadn't been on a real date. Every time you tried to, one of two things would happen. The first thing was that Alice and (friend's f/n) would tag along. The other was that you had planned it for while they would be out in another part of the city, but then you would run into them quickly and end up with tagalongs again. Neither one of you minded, but it would be nice to be alone together for once.

The flat was all put together by now, thanks to a little help from Arthur and Alice. Of course, someone would end up forgetting where something was once in a while. That wasn't uncommon after moving someplace new. It was a little hard getting used to the different systems, but it was starting to become more of a habit.

You were curled up in a blanket on the loveseat. As usual, it was raining. The window was open a bit so you could hear the rain falling. A skylight would have been nice for that, but you weren't on the top floor. Beside you and on the floor were a few small piles of books. There were a few collected works, like Shakespeare and Edgar Allen Poe, along with a few novels and even a few manga and comic books. To you, it didn't matter what it was as long as you could read it. Next to one pile of books were two empty water bottles and an empty mug. Somewhere there was a half-full water bottle holding (favorite powdered drink).

At the moment you were reading your Brothers Grimm collection. Your music was the rain. Alice had taken (friend's f/n) out for a movie marathon her family was having. You had been invited too, but you had just chosen to stay behind. Movies just didn't seem appealing at the moment.

The front door opened. Someone cursed as they hit their head on the coat rack beside the door. It was Arthur. He knew where you kept the spare key. He kept saying you needed to move the coat rack, but you kept forgetting. Your excuse was it would alert you of any burglars. London came running from her bed in your room and jumped on him with a yap. You shushed her and smiled at Arthur.

"Morning, stranger. What brings you here?" you asked. It was fun teasing each other in this way.

"I wanted to see someone," he said.

"Well, you just missed (friend's f/n). She's out with Alice for a movie marathon with Alice's family," you replied.

"Well, that's just too bad. I guess I'll have to settle for someone else... Good morning, (f/n). Why didn't you go along?" Arthur said with a smile.

"Movies just didn't seem appealing to me at the moment. I'm sure you were invited too. Why aren't you there?"

"Oh, I just thought a certain someone would rather go somewhere else... I can see you've reclaimed the loveseat," Arthur said. He walked up to you and sat down beside you, only to hear the crunch of a water bottle. You pulled the half-full bottle out from under him with a sheepish smile.

"Yeah... I did," you said with a nervous laugh. Arthur leaned over you to see the piles of books next to the empty bottles and mug. He leaned back on your shoulder with an overdramatic sigh.

"What am I going to do with you?" he said. Then Arthur glanced at you and smiled.

"What? I can't enjoy the rain in my own way?" you asked. You gave Arthur a playful shove and stood up.

With the blanket over your shoulder, you gathered up the bottles and the mug to go put them away. Arthur did the same with the books. He never listened when you said he didn't have to help. You threw the blanket onto your bed and saw London curled back up in her bed, snoring like a jackhammer. She was a funny dog.

Arthur put his arms around you. "Would you like to try another date? With the others gone we shouldn't be interrupted this time," he said.

"Sure. What did you have in mind?" you asked.

"Maybe a walk around the park and then some lunch. What do you think?"

"That sounds great. Let me just change out of my pajamas." You retreated to the closet and began picking out an outfit.

"But they look so cute!" Arthur said. Despite his protest he still left the room and shut the door behind him. His shadow was still visible under the door. You knew he was leaning on it.

"Really? Well, thank you, but I'm not walking around the city in mismatched pajamas like redneck trailer trash in the states," you replied. You were wearing bright yellow pajama pants with Pikachu on them, along with a paint-stained white tank top and a grayish-purple button up pajama top left undone, covered in Hello Kitty and her friends. To top it all off your hair was in twin braids coming undone and you had on fuzzy black slippers. Anyone normal would think you were lazy and colorblind.

"I still think it's cute," Arthur said. You laughed as you pulled out clothes more appropriate for walking around.

"Sure. You're just saying that, aren't you? They're stained and covered in cartoon characters!" you said.

"I'm not just saying that. I think you look cute no matter what. Unless, of course, you look beautiful instead." A smile tugged at your lips.

"Thanks, Arthur. Oh, quick question. How cold is it outside?"

"It's a little chilly out there. You might want to wear something warm," Arthur told you. Forgetting he couldn't see you, you nodded and slipped on a pair of skinny flare jeans - the perfect kind for keeping warm on rainy days - along with a flannel button up over a clean tank top. You opened the door before slipping on thick socks and your sneakers. Once your hair was back down and brushed out, you were ready to go.

The walk there went pretty similarly to the first walk you had gone on with him that first week here. You wandered a couple stores and then chatted through most of the walk. After going around the whole park, you began to head back to a small family-owned café. Arthur said their food was pretty good, and he was right. About halfway through the time spent there you began shivering.

"(f/n), dear, are you cold?" Arthur asked. His thick eyebrows were knit together in question.

"N- No, I'm fine," you tried saying.

"You're not fine. I can see you shivering!" he said. You grabbed your (hot cocoa/coffee/tea) with both hands and shook your head, eyes closed. Arthur sighed. Something was placed on your shoulders, and it was warm and soft. When you opened your eyes, Arthur was sitting back down, and he didn't have on his jacket.

"You didn't have to do that," you said softly.

"I'm not going to let you freeze when I'm nice and warm," Arthur replied.

"Okay... Thank you," you said as you slipped your arms into the sleeves. They were a little long, but the jacket was so warm. The inside was lined with some sort of soft fur, possibly rabbit.

"You're welcome, love," Arthur said. He smiled at you as he stood up to pay the bill.

On the way back home, you grabbed Arthur's hand. You gave him a peck on the cheek, too. He turned red but gave you a quick real kiss. A tiny smile graced your face through the rest of the walk home.

London was waiting by the door for the two of you when you got back to your flat. You picked up the puppy and held her close once the umbrella was back in its stand. Even with the warmth of Arthur's jacket you were still cold. With all the windows shut, it was beginning to get a little warmer, but it was very slow going. Somehow you had managed to soak your jeans all the way up to your knees. The cold water didn't help at all.

You changed back into your pajamas, but this time added fuzzy blue slipper socks along with the black slippers. Arthur brought in a tray holding your tea set and some warmed-up cinnamon rolls you had made that morning. He sat down next to you on your bed and helped you into the covers. His excuse for babying you was that he didn't want you catching cold.

Despite your protests, Arthur turned the small TV in the corner on and played the DVD that was in the player. You turned red when the title screen came on. It was an old Disney cartoon. Arthur just smiled and gave you one of the rolls. With the movie playing and the sticky roll sitting in your hands, you quickly calmed down. You munched on the cinnamon roll, savoring the sweet flavor, and sniffled. He had been correct on the part that you would catch cold.

"Do you want me to stay here with you tonight?" Arthur asked. You nodded and sneezed. With a groan you reached for the tissues.

Arthur handed his jacket to you again. After you blew your nose you shrugged it on again. London jumped up on the bed. She curled up beside you and looked directly at Arthur, as if to say, "You get up here too. She needs more warmth!" Arthur sat next to you on the other side of your big bed. He scratched London, and then he looked at you.

"Won't you get sick if you stayed here?" you asked. He shook his head.

"I doubt it. I haven't had a cold in years."

"Lucky... If you're feeling cold you can get under the covers too. I don't mind," you said.

After a moment's pause Arthur did. He moved closer and put an arm around you once London was curled up in your lap. Eventually you fell asleep against his shoulder. Arthur turned off the TV and kissed your forehead to check your temperature. Soon after he discovered you had a fever, he fell asleep too.

When Alice and (friend's f/n) returned that night, they found you and Arthur asleep against the backboard of your bed. The two of you woke up, both sneezing with red noses. Alice brought Arthur some sweats to use as pajamas and began to tend to the two of you, curled up together shivering.

"I knew you would get sick too," you said as the girls warmed up some soup.

"Oh well. It's not your fault. No harm done," Arthur said after a coughing fit.

"Okay, you two, eat up. This will help you feel better," Alice said. She and (friend's f/n) each handed one of you a tray of food: soup with warm toast and a mug of hot cocoa. "I'll bring you some tea as well."

"Okay. Just make sure Alfred doesn't find out we're sick. He'll try to cure us by putting hamburgers on our faces," Arthur said. "He'll come here from across the pond just to do that!" You giggled, interrupted by a cough, and began to eat. Hopefully it would help. The two of you still needed to have a formal date eventually!
Anyone remember this? I wrote the original twoshot back during the summer, and I promised a few of you guys a bonus chapter! I actually wrote this while I was visiting my grandpa over the summer, in the day we drove about an hour away to my great-grandma's house. I feel like I could have done better, but since I've never been on a date myself (and I live in the middle of a desert) I know nothing about dates or getting a cold from a cold rainstorm.
